Cooking safety with Kids in the Kitchen

Little Chefs safety in the kitchen!

Kids can learn a lot by spending time with you in the kitchen, plus they can be a great help in making school lunches and family dinners. Introduce or remind your kids about these basic kitchen safety tips so you can enlist their help when those busy back to school schedules begin!
Always wash hands before and after cooking especially when handling any raw meats.
Wash and dry all fruits and vegetables very thoroughly. (Younger kids can help hand peel fruits or use a vegetable peeler, while ages 6 and over cut fresh herbs with safety scissors.)
Check the expiry dates on packages and immediately refrigerate any uneaten food after meals.
Keep reusable plastic containers clean and safe from bacteria by washing well with warm soapy water after every use.
Stay away from hot ovens, burners, or any hot dishes that have just been removed from the oven.
When unsupervised, never handle a knife or any other sharp utensil, and never touch or move any pot or pans cooking on the range.
Wear short sleeves, long sleeves pose a greater risk of catching fire or falling into hot grease or boiling water.
Wear an apron to prevent stains on clothing and especially for protection against splattered oil or hot water.
Clean up any spills on the floor or clutter as you cook to ensure no one trips or falls around appliances and hot stoves.
